Shawn Piller is a visionary storyteller and multi-hyphenate creative known for his instinctive, character-first approach to television and film. A writer, director, showrunner, and producer, Piller’s work is driven by emotionally grounded narratives, inventive world-building, and a deep respect for the creative process.
He currently serves as Executive Producer and Director of Wild Cards, the breakout hit for CBC and The CW, as well as the upcoming spinoff series Private Eyes: West Coast (Global). Previously, he was Co-Showrunner, Executive Producer, and Director of the international successes Private Eyes and Haven—both standout series praised for their distinct tone, longevity, and fan appeal.
Piller’s creative signature has shaped a range of beloved series, from the genre-bending The Dead Zone—the USA Network hit based on characters from Stephen King’s 1979 novel, which he co-created with his father Michael Piller, and also executive produced and directed—to fan favorites Greek and Wildfire. His feature directorial debut, Sexy Evil Genius, showcased his sharp eye for performance and genre with an ensemble cast led by Anthony Michael Hall, Katee Sackhoff, Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Harold Perrineau.
He began his career collaborating with his father, the late Michael Piller, writing for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, where he first honed his craft in layered storytelling and franchise development.
A graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Shawn Piller continues to champion writer-driven projects that balance creative risk with mainstream appeal. He lives in Toronto with his wife, CBC Executive Amanda Molloy Piller.
